Tarpley and Patz  Named

NHSGCA Players of the Year

Trey Tarpley of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Breanna Patz of Avon, Indiana, were named 2009 NHSGCA Players of the Year for boys and girls high school golf. This is the fifth year of the awards program, which honored 18 boys and girls as All-Americans and Players of Achievement. Nearly 140 players have been recognized through this program. The awards are based on playing ability, academics, community service and extra-curricular activities.

Tarpley had a 72.8 stroke average for the fall 2008 season and helped the Hendersonville High School team to a third place finish in the state tournament. He shot a 69 in district competition and finished second among individuals. Trey has been in the top 10 percent of his class each year in high school and won the Tennessee Secondary Scholastic Athletic Association Athlete Award of Merit. He is also a member of the Hendersonville basketball team and has volunteered at basketball camps and junior golf clinics. He also has been a student council representative, Boys State delegate and volunteers at his church.

Patz had a 72.6 stroke average for the fall 2008 season, which was her senior year. She holds 25 school records in golf at Avon High School, including low scores of 67 for 18 holes and 33 for nine holes. She finished third in the state tournament last season and was a two-time medalist in Hendricks County competition. She served as captain of both the golf team and the basketball team as a senior. Breanna earned Academic All-State honors and ranked 14th in a class of 544. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She volunteered at numerous school and community functions and promoted the game of golf to younger players in her area.

The NHSGCA is a non-profit professional association for high school golf coaches.  The mission of the association is to provide educational programs and services for high school golf coaches.
